Did you see the moon tonight? What a beauty, right? Because of weather we have not seen it for several days now. We came up to the reserve to get some internet signal and do office work when all of a sudden we heard "Wuaaaaah", the Great Potoo (Nyctibius grandis) was very close! We quickly grabbed our camera and took some shots with the bright moon in the background.
¿Ya vio la luna de hoy? Hermosa ¿verdad? No la habías visto así despejada desde hace días.
Hoy subimos a la reserva para buscar un poco de señal de internet y realizar trabajo de oficina cuando de repente escuchamos: "Buaaaaah" ¡el Nictibio Grande (Nyctibius grandis) o pájaro estaca estaba muy cerca! Rápidamente tomamos la cámara y le hicimos algunas tomas con la brillante luz de la luna.

At least four indiviiduals were calling around the banding station and to our surprise this one was perching atop the antenna of the MOTUS station and the tall poles we use for mounting nets. We are glad they are giving them good use!
Al menos cuatro individuos estaban vocalizando alrededor y para mayor sorpresa éste se perchó en la antena de MOTUS de la estación y luego en algunos postes que usamos para colocar las redes. ¡Nos alegra que le estén dando buen uso!

Potoos are related to nightjars, they have big eyes and very large mouth to catch insects like using a butterfly net against the wind, they also eat bats.
Los nictibios están relacionados a los cuyeos, tienen ojos y boca muy grande para cazar insectos como si se atraparan con una red de mariposas (una bolsa) contra el viento, también comen murciélagos.
